The University of Richmond, snubbed by the NCAA tournament selection committee, made the most of their NIT opportunity, taking down visiting St. Francis of New York 84-74 Wednesday evening, March 18, 2015. I was there to cover the action for the AP. The story and photos were picked up by these publications: Kansas City Star […]

covering hoops

Both Dan River HS and George Washington HS of Danville, Va, had made it to the semi-finals in their respective Virginia High School League conferences and were making the trip to Richmond to play in the VHSL State Championship tournament being held at VCU’s Siegel Center. I was called by the Danville Register & Bee […]

Saint Josephs VCU Basketball

gotta love cheerleaders

A couple weeks ago I covered a VCU basketball game for the Associated Press. One of the images I delivered was picked up by the Baltimore Sun to include in their gallery of cheerleader photos. Click here to see their collection.

Saint Josephs VCU Basketball

hoop city!

The Rams were back in action at the Siegel Center Saturday, Jan 10, and I was there to cover the action for the AP. It was the 59th straight sell-out at the Stu, and the Rams did not disappoint the crowd. Nailing three 3-pointers in the first minute of the game to take a 9-0 […]

Davidson VCU Basketball

hoopin’ it up!

I covered the VCU-Davidson game for the AP this past Wednesday evening. The Rams gave Davidson a warm welcome to the A10 Conference with a 71-65 game that was never really in question.

tribe hoops: takin’ it to the heels!

The William & Mary Tribe visited UNC-Chapel Hill over the winter break and gave the Heels a lot more game than they expected. Even though he 18th-ranked Tarheels won by over 25 points, they weren’t able to breathe easy until the closing minutes of the game, with the Tribe having fought back to within 9 […]

Northern Iowa Virginia Commonwealth Basketball

shooting hoops

I got called to cover the VCU-Northern Iowa game for the Associated Press last night. UNI came in undefeated, ranked #23 in the AP; VCU was 5-3, with two lopsided losses to ranked teams. What UNI found was a rock-fight that went two overtime sessions before VCU put the Panthers away, 93-87. The Miami Herald, […]

raiders roll the patriots

After a slow start, Atlee’s offense exploded in the second half, putting up 34 points against visiting Patrick Henry to give the Patroits a 41-0 pounding Friday evening, September 13, 2013.

a new home

VCU’s Men’s Golf team finally has a home course: the Country Club of Virginia’s Tuckahoe Creek Golf Course! I rode along with Coach Matt Ball to check out the new digs; these are some of the sites found on this gorgeous course.

a night at the track

Beau had his first track meet tonight and it was an experience for all of us. Welcome to the world of the indoor track season and the “polar bear meets”. It was probably in the low 40s by the time Beau’s event was called, nearly three hours after we got to the track. At least […]

VCU’s womens soccer team played visiting Villanova to a 1-1 tie at Sportsbackers Stadium Sunday afternoon, September 2, 2012. A fierce rainstorm ripped through the last 8 minutes of regulation and lightning brought a 30 minute delay before the single overtime period could be played.

The VCU Women’s Soccer Team opened their season with a 1-1 double overtime tie against visiting High Point University Friday evening, August 17, 2012, in a match played at Sportsbackers Stadium. This was the third straight double overtime match I’ve shot.

the game

On Saturday afternoon, November 12, 2011, the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets hosted the visiting Hamdpen-Sydney Tigers for the 117 edition of “The Game”. it’s the effort, not the result, that matters

Hats off to the Janesville (WI) 14s for their deep run in the 2011 Babe Ruth World Series. These boys left it all on the field and should be nothing but proud of their efforts. After losing to Beaverton (OR) in their quarterfinal match up on Thursday afternoon, August 25, Coach Kobs told the team […]
